Alicia D. Schmiedel, CPA, Manager, attended the National Conference of Employee Benefit Plans sponsored in May by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). The event was held in New Orleans.

Alicia, a member of the Stambaugh Ness Employee Benefit Plan Audit Team, attended sessions geared toward those who conduct employee benefit plan audits.

In addition to an overview of recent and expected changes in benefit plan audits, Alicia attended sessions devoted to:

  - New standards for reporting and disclosure of fully benefit responsive general insurance contracts
  - New auditing standards
  - Department of Labor's Work paper inspection program
  - Pension Protection Act topics
  - Changes to Form 5500 and e-fast processing system, and 
  - Financial statement reporting and disclosure topics.

The Stambaugh Ness Employee Benefit Plan Audit Team is a member of the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center. Membership in this Center demonstrates the team's commitment to adhere to Center membership requirements. The team is also provided tools and best practices to perform efficient and quality audits.

Alicia is pursuing the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist certification through the Wharton School of Business and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.
