| P ennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Dennis Wolff visited Stambaugh Ness client Soy Energy, Inc. in Adams County this afternoon to meet with local agriculture and government officials and emphasize the importance of developing alternative fuels, especially for the citizens of the state.
"Renewable fuels are certainly very critical," Wolff noted, adding that development of such fuels is crucial to the future environment of the state's citizens. "Renewable energy is the new market," he stated, noting that, by continuing to move in this direction, agriculture will continue to be the "number one industry in the Commonwealth."
When asked to comment on his accomplishments, Dan Sharrer simply said, "I believe American made fuel is the future of this nation. I am proud to have contributed to helping this important cause which makes such a vital difference for us and for future generations."
Soy Energy, Inc, is a pioneer in the Biodiesel Industry Revolution. It opened Pennsylvania's first soybean oil refinery and first waterless biodiesel refinery which manufactures premium oil for sale as additives for diesel fuel, home heating oil, and feedstock uses.
Sharrer, a rural Pennsylvania native, developed the revolutionary new Bio-Fuel Additive that industry experts are calling "better than bio-diesel." According to Sharrer, Soy Energy is made using a patent-pending process that creates a 100% ultra biodiesel ASTM 6751 fuel additive. Sharrer has been active in the agricultural business for more than 40 years. He designed and built the Soy Energy Facility.
Nearly two years ago, Wolff assigned Soy Energy to the PA Preferred program, the Commonwealth's premium products that have earned a worldwide reputation for quality. Governor Edward G. Rendell has propelled Pennsylvania into the national spotlight by advancing renewable and alternative energy technologies. The use of soy oil benefits the environment by reducing carbon emissions. More importantly, it reduces our dependence on foreign fuel.
At the time of the signing, Wolff noted "With the dramatic increase in fuel costs, companies are aggressively seeking new technologies to help them lower their dependence on fossil fuels. Soy Energy is one example of a Pennsylvania firm working to meet this objective, while recognizing the need to protect the environment."
Dan Sharrer is also the co-owner of Ag Com, Inc. which buys, sells or trades almost 1.5 million bushels of soybeans each year, most of which comes from over 400 local Pennsylvania soybean growers in a 60 mile radius. Ag Com is responsible for supplying feed for 15,000,000 animals daily. The business has a truck fleet of 35 trucks that have run over 15 million miles on Soy Energy displacing 115,384 gallons of imported fuel.
Most recently, Soy Energy has been recognized as Outstanding Alternative Energy Business Advocate by the Alternative Fuel Renewable Energies Council.
In December 2004, Gov. Rendell implemented a new clean-energy portfolio standard that will promote economic development, cut energy costs, and encourage technologies to protect and restore the environment. This year, Governor Rendell unveiled his Energy Independence Strategy Plan, a proposed plan to save consumers $10 billion in energy costs over 10 years and reduce the state's reliance on foreign fuels. Soy Energy was chosen to be showcased as a model business that helps accelerate the commercialization of alternative energy.
