John Seever – 25 Years of Service

In this issue of Footnotes, we would like to recognize John Seever for 25 years of service to Umbaugh.

John joined Umbaugh in 1982 after graduating from Indiana University School of Business in Bloomington. He became a CPA in 1985 and has been a partner in the firm since 1992.

During the past 25 years, John has had the opportunity to serve Umbaugh's clients in many ways, including conducting financial studies for cities and towns, municipally-owned utilities and not-for-profit corporations, water and sewer districts and conservancy districts. John frequently speaks on such topics as financing capital improvements and utility rates, and he often serves as an expert accounting witness before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Indiana CPA Society and the American Water Works Association. He is an active member of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns.

He is a member of Umbaugh's Management Committee and leads the firm's Accounting Services Group.

To put his years of service into perspective, when John joined Umbaugh in 1982:

  • Ronald Regan was President
  • Unemployment was at 9.7% and the inflation rate was just above 7%
  • Sony introduced the world's first compact disk (CD) player
  • A first-class postage stamp cost 20¢ and a gallon of gas cost $1.30
  • TIME Magazine's Man of the Year was the personal computer
  • "Electronic mail" via fax machines was gaining popularity as third-generation Japanese technology cut transmission time to 20 seconds per page, down from 6 minutes with first-generation machines

"I'm proud to have been born and raised in Connersville, Indiana. My Hoosier roots have instilled me with a better appreciation of our client's concerns," says John. "I recognize that it's rare in today's world to stay with one company for so long. But my time at Umbaugh has been fulfilling because of our many wonderful clients and the intelligent and dedicated colleagues I work with every day."

John and his family have lived in Zionsville, Indiana for the past 20 years and are active members of the community.

John's milestone is important to us. We believe his accomplishments demonstrate not only the depth and breadth of our firm's understanding of issues facing local governments, but also his commitment to a career with Umbaugh. After all, we firmly believe "it's all about experience."

To congratulate John directly, please contact him at seever@umbaugh.com.
