DMLO encourages agricultural achievement

Agriculture is big business in Kentucky and our nation, and it is vital that we encourage the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs.  This is the goal of 4-H and FFA and the recognition programs that are central to the Kentucky State Fair.

DMLO is proud to be part of continuing that heritage.

On Thursday evening, August 23, the annual 4-H and FFA Sale of Champions event was held at Broadbent Arena.  The event began with a reception for the winning young people, where they were given ample opportunity to meet business and community leaders.  The actual sale began with addresses by Governor Ernie Fletcher and Secretary of Agriculture Richie Farmer as well as the state Presidents of 4-H and FFA.  Then a lively auction of the champion and reserve champion in each livestock group was held.

DMLO was represented by Bill Malone, who serves on the Kentucky State Fair Board, and Jerry Hurt, Managing Director of DMLO.  The winning bid for the Reserve Champion Boer Goat was $7,500, which was donated by a consortium of donors headed by DMLO.  The purse is distributed as follows:  60% to the winner, 30% to the other entries and 10% to the state 4-H and FFA organizations.

Congratulations to all the winners in the 4-H and FFA Sales of Champions, both the young people who won and the businesses who supported and encouraged their efforts by buying their winning animals.
