Umbaugh Takes a Leadership Role in NAIPFA Conference in Indianapolis
Indianapolis was the site of the annual national conference of the National Association of Independent Public Finance Advisors (NAIPFA) October 3-5. The conference theme was "Expanding Possibilities." NAIPFA is comprised of firms from across the country that specialize in providing financial advice on bond sales and financial planning on public projects of local governments. Members must be completely independent of underwriters in the municipal sector.
Jackie Nytes, City County Councilor of Indianapolis, served as the keynote speaker talking with attendees about "Facing the Challenges of Local Government and the Importance of Sound Financial Planning."
Several representatives of Umbaugh were presenters at the conference. Gary Malone moderated a panel on The Rationale of Privatization and also facilitated a discussion with CEO's of the various firms regarding Succession Planning. Colette Irwin-Knott moderated a panel on Long-Term Capital Planning, which featured the Indianapolis Public Schools program, and Brian Colton moderated a panel on Public-Private Partnerships. The presentations also featured representatives of Indianapolis city government and Boone County.
Umbaugh is, of course, a member of NAIPFA. Colette Irwin-Knott serves on the NAIPFA board representing firms in the Eastern Time zone, has earned the organization's Certified Independent Public Financial Advisor (CIPFA) certification, and served on the planning committee for the conference. She was elected to a second two-year term on the NAIPFA Board.
Loren Matthes and Brian Colton also gained the CIPFA certification by passing a rigorous exam regarding a variety of public finance tools. Congratulations to Loren and Brian!
It was an honor to host this national conference in our home city!
