In today's politically correct world, you can never be sure if it's ok to wish someone a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. But whether you celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, or some other holiday, the idea of giving to one another – especially those most in need – unites us this time of year. In the spirit of the season, McKonly & Asbury's Service Committee has coordinated several holiday-giving projects.
This year, the McKonly & Asbury service team selected several projects on which to focus the efforts of the firm.
- Holiday Adopt-A-Family projects at New Hope Ministries in Mechanicsburg, PA and Clare House in Lancaster, PA.
- Care Packages for Soldiers serving overseas
- Toys for Cancer Recovery Foundation's Bearable Bag Program
The effort to support Cancer Recovery Foundation was a late addition to our service projects. This great organization provides information and services to those battling cancer, and has become well known for its "Bearable Bag" program, which provides activities and toys to pediatric cancer patients in over 200 hospitals across the country and internationally.
The Foundation was particularly hard hit this year by the toy recalls that have been plaguing consumers. Chronicled in the Patriot-News by columnist Nancy Eshelman, the acute need for toys to replace the recalled items was met by strong reactions of support from the community.
"Cancer Recovery Foundation was really hit hard by these toy recalls. Knowing the great work they do, the team here at M&A immediately jumped into trying to help. Over the years, we've been touched far too often by the scourge of cancer. We wanted to help," said Jim Rodgers, Marketing Director. "I'm so proud of what the firm has done with this project and the other projects we've worked on this holiday season. This is what makes our culture great – serving others!"
Friday, members of the Audit team delivered toys and monetary donations of over $1,500 to The Cancer Recovery Foundation. Coupled with the generous support of the rest of the community, the Foundation is back on its feet and meeting requests from hundreds of hospitals and thousands of patients in time for Christmas.
