Toastmasters offers an entertaining lunch! But the club is so much more ...
According to a previous article in Business Woman magazine, "If you're looking for an effective way for you and your employees to enhance your communications skills, you may want to try Toastmasters ... a club in which members meet to work on communication and leadership skills in a safe environment. It's communication and leadership training that you can participate in just a few times per month."
According to the article, "Members have many different reasons for joining Toastmasters. Most join because speaking in front of people is a nervewracking ordeal, and they need to practice before making a big presentation."
Members of the White Rose Toastmasters present their topical speeches during their regular lunch meetings on the first, third and fifth Thursdays of each month. Each session lasts from noon until 1:15 p.m. Those attending do arrive 15 minutes early to fill their plates (with provided lunch) and greet each other in the second-floor meeting room at the York Office of Stambaugh Ness, 2600 Eastern Boulevard.
Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 15-20 people who meet biweekly to practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.
There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.
