Insurance Apprehension

By Paul D. Brick, CFP®

When we think of insurance, it often brings to mind many unpopular ideas. We consider the tragedy we would rather avoid or we cringe at the thought of readinga complicated policy.

Although insurance may be a dreaded subject, it is an important part of your financial plan. In some cases, insurance can be fairly straightforward. For example, if you want to drive a car or own a house, you need auto or homeowners insurance. Insurance gets tricky when owning the policy is discretionary. There are a myriad of policies and coverage levels, which can become overwhelming. At that point, rather than sifting through the information, it becomes easier to put it off for another time.

Nonetheless, it is essential to have proper insurance. Don't wait for a tragedy to discover you are not covered or that the coverage you selected is inadequate.
