The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry has scheduled the official annual training needed to maintain a workplace safety committee's state certification. Training sessions have been set on these dates at these four locations:

  • Thursday, April 24, 2008 - Crowne Plaza Valley Forge, King of Prussia
  • Wednesday, May 14, 2008 - The Woodlands Inn & Resort, Wilkes-Barre
  • Thursday, September 25, 2008 - Radisson Penn Harris & Convention Center, Camp Hill
  • Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - Four Points at Sheraton Pittsburgh North, Mars

This joint effort of the Pennsylvania Chamber, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Bureau of PENNSAFE, is designed to help all companies - individually insured, group insured and self-insured - easily and conveniently meet the requirements of the annual safety training for their safety committees in one day. This program satisfies the training requirements for recertification, and is used to help companies receive a 5 percent reduction on their workers' compensation insurance premium.

Those who should attend include:

  • Safety Committee Chairs and members (each require the recertification training)
  • Safety Committees that are not yet certified but want to receive the training and learn how to become certified
  • Safety Directors
  • Environmental, Health and Safety Specialists
  • Plant or Facility Managers
  • Environmental Managers
  • Industrial Hygienists
  • Workers' Compensation Specialists
  • Anyone responsible for a company's safety and loss prevention programs 

Employers that are currently certified must file a renewal application between 90 and 15 days prior to the annual renewal date of their workers' compensation policy to receive their certification renewal approval. This ensures that the employer is maintaining their safety committee and meeting all other certification requirements.
 
Employers that are not yet certified will want to bring their in-house safety committee to this event to be recognized as having met the annual committee training requirement and learn how to provide necessary documentation to complete the certification process. 

The conference price is $100 for PA Chamber members and $150 for non-members. Employees of federal, state and local government agencies may attend at the member rate.
