The price for a one-ounce First-Class stamp will increase from 41 to 42 cents on May 12. And, as stamp prices are increasing, the U.S. Postal Services is conducting its Annual Food Drive to give back to our communities.

Prices for other mailing services, such as Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services (including single-piece Parcel Post), and Special Services will also change (see chart below). The average increase by class of mail is at or below the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index.

"The Postal Service developed the Forever Stamp for consumers to ease the transition during price changes," said Postmaster General John Potter. "We encourage Americans to buy Forever Stamps now for 41 cents, because like the name suggests, they are good forever." The price goes up to 42 cents on May 12.

The Postal Service has sold 5 billion Forever Stamps since the launch last April and plans to have an additional 5 billion in stock to meet the expected demand before the May price change.

ANNUAL NATIONAL FOOD DRIVE

Also, the U.S. Postal Service is proud to support the annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) National Food Drive. Letter carriers in more than 10,000 communities across America will join forces to help stamp out hunger on Saturday, May 10. Postal employees will collect non-perishable food items and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries, and shelters across the country. This food drive is the nation's largest annual single-day food drive.

Customers are asked to place bags of non-perishable food items such as canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal next to their mailbox before their letter carrier delivers the mail on Saturday, May 10. The letter carrier will do the rest, taking the food to the Post Office where it is sorted and delivered to an area food bank or pantry.
