Do you have goods and/or services that are billed at the same rate for most or all of your projects?  By utilizing the units feature in the Unit Info Center, Deltek Vision allows you to set up cost and billing rates for recurring expenses (units) that have originated within your organization.  Examples of units could be:

  • Copies and Reproductions that your organization bills to clients
  • Lab Tests that are billed at consistent rates regardless of who performs the test
  • Field Crews (that could include a combination of people and equipment) that are billed out at a standard rate per day, etc.

The purpose of using units is to recover the internal (overhead) costs and charge them directly to a project regardless of whether or not the expense is reimbursable. Separate unit tables can be set up to group unit records by project, project type, unit type etc. By creating separate unit tables, accounting and billing transactions can be quickly identified with the proper unit record.

Units can be charged to a project by using either the Units, or Units by Project Transaction Types in the Transaction Center. Units entered in the Transaction Center are then available to be billed. In addition, for units billed "on the fly" users can easily insert units through interactive billing when preparing invoices.
