Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act Takes Effect July 1st

Attorney General Tom Corbett is reminding contractors to register with the Attorney General's Office to comply with a new law that goes into effect July 1st. In 2008, the Pennsylvania legislature passed the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act which required all contractors who perform $5,000 or more in home improvements in a year to register with the Attorney General's Office. The new law still requires registration with the Attorney General's Office, but has added other guidelines to protect consumers. Read on for more details.

Act 32 - The New Collection of Earned Income Tax in PA

ACT 32 of 2008 is considered the most comprehensive Earned Income Tax (EIT) reform legislation and provides a new structure that will consolidate the current local earned income tax collection system from over 500 local collectors to 69 "Tax Collection Districts" (TCD). County Commissioners for each respective County will be responsible for the facilitation of the first meeting between all school district and municipal officials with the intent of this meeting being to establish a Tax Collection Committee (TCC) for the political subdivisions of the County. This update to the law has repercussions not only for local municipalities, but also for employers. Read on for more information.
