November 18 ARRA Update

The outline below represents a first response to the possible extension of the ARRA COBRA premium subsidies. Legislation has recently been introduced in the US House of Representatives and the Senate. Until actual legislation is passed we do not know too much. This outline is based on what little we do know.

Military Leave Expands for FMLA

The newly enacted defense bill expands FMLA leave benefits... for family members of military personnel and veterans. The Defense Authorization Act, -- recently approved by Congress and signed by President Obama --  includes expanded military caregiver leave. For covered employers (those with 50 or more employees within 75 miles of a work location) this means needing to make some changes in FMLA and military leave policies. Here are the details.

A new law went into effect this year that provides greater protection against discrimination of employees based on genetic information. Now, new federal regulations have been released that clarify the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. The new regulations may require changes to employer wellness programs run in conjunction with group health plans. Here are the details.
