What You Need to Know About “Frivolous” Tax Arguments...The IRS Speaks

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has finally spoken.  In their document, "The Truth About Frivolous Tax Arguments", released in November 2007, the IRS describes some of the more common frivolous "legal arguments" made by individuals and groups who oppose compliance with the federal tax laws.  The document includes some of the positions taken by people who claim citizens don't need to pay income tax.  Read on for more details.

IRS Publishes 2007 Enforcement Results

The IRS continues to increase activity in a number of key enforcement areas. The IRS is showing consistent improvements in areas critical to maintaining a fair, efficient tax system while bringing billions of additional dollars into the Treasury. At the same time, the agency continues to improve service to taxpayers.  The IRS enforcement efforts increased again in fiscal year 2007. Overall, the total individual returns audited increased by 7 percent.  Audits of businesses in general rose almost 14 percent from the prior year's total, with S Corporations and partnerships both rising over 25 percent.  Read on for more details.
