QuickBooks 2005 Phased Out

 
Intuit will no longer technically support or offer add-on business services for QuickBooks 2005 beginning May 31, 2008. Those using the Payroll Services need to have the new QuickBooks 2008 version installed and Payroll Services activated prior to that date.

QuickBooks ProAdvisor Lisa Furr, of Stambaugh Ness Business Solutions, explains what will happen for those who choose not to upgrade their software.

Family and Medical Leave Act Amended for Armed Forces

 
The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) has been amended
to permit family members to take up to 26 workweeks of leave to care for a member of the Armed Forces under specified conditions.

The Department of Labor is working to prepare guidance regarding related rights and responsibilities, and this provision will not be effective until final regulations are developed. However, employers are encouraged to provide this type of leave in the interim.
