Two recent puppy mill busts have brought the horrors of large-scale breeding operations to light. Many pugs that come into MAPR's care throughout the year - such as Tia our most recent survivor - come from these horrible places. These pugs have usually lived in small cages, have fleas, worms or other numerous health issues with their eyes, skin, and reproductive systems. Their spines can be bent from lack of room and their muscles atrophied from disuse. My husband and I owned a simply marvelous dog named Pugsly. Though he passed away in February of 2007, he gave me something so precious. He became my inspiration and reason for deciding to be actively involved with Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue. He made me so happy and loved me so very unconditionally, how could I not want to give back something to this wonderful breed? Click Full Article for Charlene's full story.
This is the story of a young lady named Heather McDougall, and the sweet little special needs pug named Izzy that she adopted in September. Following is the letter Debbie Gretz wrote to Heather's mother to express her appreciation for her influence and support in Heather's decision to adopt Izzy.
Note from the editor: You may wish to consider having a box of tissues handy. Please click Full Article for the story.
Too many times we have rescued pugs that look a bit like they pulled up a chair to the buffet table. Just recently, we rescued a little girl who weighed in at a whopping 38 pounds on what should have been a 20-pound frame! And sadly this year, we have had 2 pugs pass from disorders directly related to their weight.

Q: Dear Miss Ethel, My people keep scolding me for getting into the treats in the cat litter box!!!!! I think it is really unfair. Do you have any advice for my people or me?
